HONORs BRASS QUINTET
The Honors Brass Quintet Program is Michigan State's elite brass ensemble training ground. The most qualified freshmen brass players are formed into a brass quintet. This quintet stays intact for all four years of schooling. The brass faculty coach these quintets weekly, training the students in chamber music skills and quintet repertoire. Currently, there are five student quintets, one from every grade, including a graduate quintet.
The students have an active part in the music making. Some quintets produce a cd while others make a website. Yearly recitals are common as well as outreach performances to schools and senior centers. Students learn communication skills, rehearsal skills, and performance management skills. The Honors Brass Program prepares the students for a life of chamber performance and collegial success.
Here is a list of some of past Honors Brass students:
Matthew Hansen, Chris Newman, Claire Ross, Nathan Doss, Chandler Nadig, Megan Fritz, Alex Wolke
